The product line includes four blood sampling devices, each tailored for a different stage of development. Unistik Heelstik Toddler, Full Term, Preemie, and Micro Preemie are engineered to provide effective capillary blood sampling for each important phase.

Sampling capillary blood from newborns and children poses its own specific challenges. Collecting enough blood with a single prick and making the process as comfortable as possible for the baby are essential. The Unistik Heelstik devices are purpose-built to address these needs. A clearly marked alignment arrow helps with precise lancet placement, allowing for a quick and efficient procedure. Manual activation puts control in the user’s hands, ensuring that the proper sample is collected the first time.

Unistik Heelstik devices are designed to reach only the surface blood vessels and avoid going deep enough to contact dermal pain nerves. These devices comply with World Health Organization guidelines for safe penetration depth and use a sterilized moving blade, not a needle, offering penetration depths of 0.65mm for very small preterm babies, 0.85mm for preterm, 1mm for full term babies, and 1.5mm for older babies—even toddlers. After activation, the blade automatically retracts into the device, helping to minimize the risks of injury, repeat use, and cross-infection. This approach means less pain for the baby1, less stress for their family, and greater confidence in the process. Each device is individually sealed, ensuring a five-year shelf life and sterility from the date it is made.

“Owen Mumford is a leader in capillary blood sampling devices and understands the need for more device options for neonatal and pediatric care that deliver safe and effective treatments for both healthcare professionals (HCPs) and patients,” said Adam Mumford, Director of Medical Devices at Owen Mumford. “The Unistik Heelstik range gives HCPs four different devices for safe, efficient capillary blood sampling across four key stages of development—each with its own unique features to help reduce discomfort and guarantee the procedure is successful.”

The Unistik Heelstik line gives HCPs more device choices, each one designed for a specific age and weight group to offer safe, effective blood sampling. To learn more about the product line, visit www.owenmumford.com/en/medical-devices/unistik-heelstik.
