UN Global Compact Sponsorship

As a proud member of the UN Global Compact (UNGC) Network UK, Owen Mumford is dedicated to advancing corporate sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Learn more about how we’re addressing the challenges of working with supply chains to cut scope 3 emissions — the indirect emissions that occur throughout a company’s value chain.

Inconsistent supplier emissions data can be a challenge for many organizations trying to reduce scope 3 emissions. We’re tackling this issue by encouraging suppliers to use a consistent approach when measuring and reporting their emissions.

We also perform lifecycle assessments to identify the emission hotspots within our supply chain. This helps us to reduce these emissions by design, whether that’s through physical changes, materials, or systemic improvements.

UN Global Compact Network UK: Reducing scope 3 emissions

We're excited to announce our sponsorship of a series of UN Global Compact webinars focused on reducing scope 3 emissions.

This webinar series will explore how companies can cut their scope 3 emissions, helping organizations to accurately measure, report, and reduce these emissions while building them into their net-zero strategies. It will also offer actionable steps for engaging stakeholders throughout a value chain to help speed up the reduction of scope 3 emissions.

Guest speakers will feature climate specialists and representatives from organizations already making progress in this area who can share their insights.

As a member of the UN Global Compact Network UK, we're proud to support this event — helping businesses, government, and society make progress while also building our own knowledge throughout the series.

Reducing our emissions

Thanks to our environmental steering group, we've earned many achievements so far. A major milestone on our sustainability path was becoming one of the industry's first to reach B Corp status — clear proof that we practice what we preach. But we recognize there’s still a lot more we can do.

  • Emissions reporting: Making our emissions reporting more reliable and accessible is a key part of our sustainability strategy. Our goal is to create a dynamic data model linking companywide improvements to product-level emissions. This system will make our data actionable, highlight the impact at the product level, and bring teams together in their sustainability efforts.

  • Building for the future: Our newest Witney facility earned a “Very Good” BREEAM certification, proving it offers outstanding environmental, social, and economic sustainability performance. It’s not just about protecting natural resources — it’s also about improving the well-being of the people who work there. To reach this certification, we considered every aspect during construction, from sustainable planning to creating a responsible workspace that enhances productivity and welfare.

  • Reforestation projects: Working with Eden Reforestation Projects, we planted 468 trees this year in response to the number of completed engagement survey responses. Every tree planted through this initiative doesn’t just cut carbon — it also creates jobs for people living in poverty in these regions.

  • Consolidating shipments: We’re committed to constantly improving our international and local transport systems. As part of this, we’ve launched a dedicated consolidation service in China. Moving forward, when we have LCL (less-than-container load) volumes from various suppliers, we’ll transport them to Shanghai for consolidation. This has not only shortened lead times and reduced costs, but it’s also cut CO2 emissions by 500 kg per container.

  • Going paperless: We’re dedicated to cutting paper consumption across the business. Our finance team has already gone paperless, and we’re rolling this initiative out to every team. Our quality department now uses electronic signatures, helping to further reduce the use of paper documents. We expect these changes will save around 7,756 sheets of paper a year, the equivalent of saving 1.5-2 trees, conserving over 77,500 liters of water, and preventing about 56 kg of CO2 emissions.

  • Utilizing renewable energy: Our French office has scored an A grade from the Indice Vert (Green Index), which benchmarks companies on their environmental and social responsibility — especially in areas such as sustainable purchasing, ethics, and CSR. Scoring an A means Owen Mumford has met or exceeded all required standards for responsible purchasing and sustainability in the French healthcare sector.
