Our heritage, values and pioneering spirit remain firmly at the heart of who we are as we continue to shape the future of medical devices together.

It all began more than 70 years ago, when our founders John Mumford and Ivan Owen met while completing their apprenticeships in Oxfordshire. United by a shared ambition to run their own business, they launched Owen Mumford in 1952, establishing a company guided from the outset by strong values that continue to shape how we think, work and innovate today.

One year after launching, John and Ivan began manufacturing the Oxford Inflating Bellows. When used in conjunction with a vaporiser, this provided a simple and transportable anaesthetic outfit that helped save countless lives. The pioneering spirit they brought to the enterprise didn’t stop there, but has been fundamental to the introduction of many more industry-defining medical devices.

We’re looking ahead to a future focused on sustainability. The planet needs action, so we’ve worked hard to review our operations and understand their impact. We’ve committed to emission reduction targets under the Science Based Targets initiative, planning to cut our carbon emissions 50% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2045.

As a proud signatory of the UN Global Compact Sustainable Development Goals, we were one of the first in our industry to achieve B Corp certification. Looking forward, our advanced Witney production facility supports our ongoing development of innovative medical devices using sustainable designs and manufacturing. The building is certified to a high BREEAM standard, recognizing environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
