Oxford, UK – Owen Mumford, a global leader in medical device design and manufacturing, has announced Shirley Loh as its new Regional Managing Director for Asia-Pacific, operating from the company’s Malaysian hub in Nusajaya.

Starting in her new role today, Loh brings a strong background in both clinical and commercial areas. Over the past six years, she worked at Medtronic, where she was most recently Marketing Director for Medtronic’s Restorative Therapy Group in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region.

Speaking about the appointment, Owen Mumford’s Group Managing Director Jarl Severn said, “We are pleased to welcome Shirley to the team. Our Malaysian hub was the first Owen Mumford manufacturing site outside the UK, and in the last three years we’ve seen significant growth throughout Asia-Pacific. But with the increased prevalence of conditions like diabetes—especially in emerging markets—I believe Owen Mumford can do even more to help manage these conditions across the region. With more than 20 years of experience in the medical device field, Shirley brings the skills and knowledge necessary to strengthen our brand in this important market.”

Loh is excited to lead the Malaysian team and from day one will focus on building an effective and efficient market access strategy.

Discussing her priorities, she said, “I am thrilled to join Owen Mumford as they expand in Asia-Pacific. The market here is well-established, but we see strong demand growth.

“A report by the World Health Organization in 2014 estimated that 422 million people worldwide had diabetes, with higher rates found within the region’s emerging markets. This includes China, where it’s believed over 11% of adults have the condition1.”

She added, “These numbers are obviously very concerning. As a responsible business, Owen Mumford has a key role in figuring out how best to support developing markets—helping build awareness and improving communication, while also leveraging innovation to provide valuable services.

“I’m looking forward to developing Owen Mumford’s impact on this issue, while also raising awareness of our capabilities as a company—both as a supplier of medical devices and as a partner in creating innovative healthcare solutions.”

Loh lives in Singapore with her husband and two teenage daughters, and enjoys spending time with her family outside of work.
