Rates of non-communicable diseases and their identification are increasing, and worldwide, over a billion patients undergo venous blood collection each year. With this growth in diagnostic tests, healthcare professionals (HCPs) face a rising risk of needlestick injuries due to incorrect handling or not activating safety features before disposal. While training helps lower risk, significant costs can arise from needlestick injury claims and treatment, along with the physical and mental impacts on healthcare professionals.

Additionally, current pressures on the NHS are significant. A recent study by the British Medical Journal found the healthcare sector is facing the highest burnout levels since 2018 tracking began, with 44% of trainee doctors saying they regularly feel “exhausted in the morning.”1 Given this added burnout factor, it is essential that diagnostic staff have access to equipment that is user-friendly and reduces the risk of injury.

The Unistik venous blood collection line draws on our strong background in capillary blood sampling, providing a range of products that deliver safety, comfort, and quality to make the blood collection process better. Our lineup includes devices that protect against NSIs using user-friendly safety features.

Unistik ShieldLock features flexible, textured wings for a secure grip during use, along with a thumb-activated safety mechanism that automatically covers and shields the needle after it is removed from the vein.

Unistik VacuFlip is designed for safe and efficient blood draws, using an ergonomic safety guard that flips over the needle once it’s out of the vein, securely closing the device and helping prevent needlestick injuries.

Our safety blood collection devices aim to protect healthcare professionals by helping to prevent needlestick injuries and lowering the risk of unsuccessful blood draws. Each product is compatible with other common blood collection devices, including the Unistik Holder and Luer adapter accessories, to allow HCPs to transition easily without disrupting their workflow.
