WOODSTOCK – OXFORDSHIRE, England, June 28, 2021 – Owen Mumford, a global leader in the design, manufacturing, and development of medical devices, announced today that it has received B Corp certification, recognizing its strict adherence to the rigorous standards of this globally respected designation. Owen Mumford, which launched its sustainability program in 2014 and formally committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), now joins a distinguished group of for-profit businesses that are using growth and profits to benefit the environment, external communities, and employees.

B Corp sets the standard for a new generation of purpose-driven brands defining the future of responsible business. Today, there are 4,010 B Corps in 77 countries across 153 industries, and more than 100,000 companies use the B Impact Assessment and the SDG Action Manager to measure their impact. The B Corp community in the UK includes over 400 companies representing a wide range of sizes and industries.

B Corp certification evaluates five impact areas: governance, community, workers, environment, and customers. “Social and environmental responsibility has always been a top priority at Owen Mumford,” said Jarl Severn, CEO of Owen Mumford. “Going through B Corp certification is a natural extension of our core values. Companies like ours that work in the medical field are used to operating in strict regulatory environments. We believe it’s not enough just to state our ethical and environmental goals; it’s also essential to earn meaningful certifications. Our industries rely on strong ethical standards to protect the environment, professionals, and patients. B Corp provides a solid benchmark for helping us continually raise our standards in our business and the global communities we’re part of, as well as where we can make a positive impact.”

For almost 70 years, Owen Mumford has led the way in the design and manufacture of medical devices like self-injection, blood sampling, and drug delivery. It is the first company of its kind to join the B Corp community. This achievement highlights its commitment to making a positive social and environmental impact.

Kate Sandle, Director of Programmes and Engagement at B Lab UK, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Owen Mumford to the B Corp community. This movement is all about companies committed to changing the way business is done and believing that business can be a force for good. We are confident Owen Mumford will make a fantastic addition to the community and will help push the conversation forward. Welcoming Owen Mumford is an exciting milestone because it has the opportunity to lead by example in the medical device industry.”

B Corp certification must be renewed every three years to ensure continued compliance with these strict requirements.

About B Corp

B Corp certification applies to the whole of a company’s operations, evaluating five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. The assessment process is thorough: applicants need to score above 80 while providing evidence of responsible social and environmental practices, such as energy sources, waste and water management, employee compensation, diversity, and corporate transparency. To complete certification, companies must legally embed their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their corporate documents.
