Owen Mumford launches 16G safety lancet in Unistik Touch line for high-volume capillary blood collection
OXFORD, England, March 16th, 2021 – Owen Mumford, a global leader in medical technology design, manufacturing, and innovation, today announced the introduction of a 16-gauge (16G) safety lancet for high-volume capillary blood sampling in its leading Unistik product line
The new Unistik Touch 16G features one-touch activation and Comfort Zone Technology, designed to reduce the pain of finger sampling.1 This new safety lancet is made for healthcare professionals (HCPs) and test kit manufacturers. For HCPs who need to collect larger blood samples for a variety of tests, such as blood gas, electrolytes, blood clotting, total bilirubin, and cardiac markers, it can be used in many clinical environments and allows for fewer punctures when more blood is needed. It’s also a great fit for at-home and point of care testing (POCT) kits, making it a practical choice for kit manufacturers who need to save on packaging, order in bulk, and benefit from its compact size and easy-to-use design.
With the Unistik Touch 16G’s one-touch activation, users just press the device to the sample site. The device automatically activates, and the needle retracts back into the device body, helping to prevent reuse, pre-analytical errors on multiplex tests, cross-contamination, and needlestick injuries. “The Unistik Touch range was developed in-house to make sample collection more comfortable for patients and easier for HCPs to get a high-quality blood sample on the first try,” said Jesper Jonsson, Director of Medical Devices at Owen Mumford. “Our proven pain-reducing technology and easy one-touch use make this an appealing option, and the 16G lancet has been developed with competitive pricing so patients can benefit from greater comfort as the at-home and POCT markets expand. This new solution for larger blood samples is a perfect addition to our lineup so we can offer customers even more safety lancet options.”
The Unistik Touch 16G comes in various packaging sizes including 100, 200, and bulk quantities. Additional educational material, developed with HCPs and industry experts, is available to help support reliable test results.
