The pharma industry has traditionally contributed significantly to pollution. One significant study found that the sector’s emissions intensity was 55 percent higher than that of the automotive industry, even though the pharma market was 28 percent smaller. The study concluded that to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, the industry would need to reduce its 2015 emissions levels by 58.6 percent by 2025.
