Providing patients with needlestick protection during self-administration

With the rise of chronic conditions that require treatment by subcutaneous injection such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and Crohns’ disease, many of these procedures are now taking place in the home environment. Medication delivery using a pre-filled syringe is common practice and these are increasingly designed with needle protection safety features in order to comply with sharp safety regulations

Pre-filled Safety Syringes for Subcutaneous Injection

We use human factors research to ensure our safety devices for pre-filled syringes are simple for patients to use with no additional steps, so that the procedure is the same as usual injection technique with a syringe.

Key to product design is to ensure automatic or passive deployment of the needle shielding safety mechanism during the normal administration process. This helps to ensure that the patient can focus on their injection and still be protected from potential sharps injury.

UniSafe® Safety Syringe Design – Benefits

  • Passive safety design ensuring the needle is shielded automatically following the normal injection procedure with no user additional steps
  • Robust needle protection to ensure the needle is fully encased and protected through to disposal
  • Prevention of syringe plunger removal to avoid reuse, drug spillage and wastage
  • Intuitive design aligned to normal injection procedure
