The new building has been planned to support the company’s strong focus on sustainability, designed with the latest environmental standards to achieve BREEAM certification, which is the world’s top sustainability assessment for buildings. A groundbreaking ceremony was held to celebrate the start of construction, attended by Chairman Mark Owen, the son of one of the original founders, and CEO Jarl Severn.

This $14 million investment will drive the continued development of innovative medical devices using sustainable design and manufacturing processes. The building’s design aligns with the requirements for BREEAM certification, which recognizes the highest standards of environmental, social, and economic sustainability—not only conserving natural resources but also improving the well-being of team members who will work there. During planning, Owen Mumford worked closely with ecology specialists to ensure there would be no adverse impact on the site’s biodiversity and set targets for biodiversity gains during and after the construction phase. Advanced technology and materials are being used to maximize efficiency in energy, heating, and cooling systems.

Owen Mumford’s new site in Witney will set a new standard for excellence in medical device design and production, serving as a center of expertise for automation and assembly with a portfolio that will drive ongoing innovation and growth. It will also be the manufacturing site for the company’s recently launched next-generation auto-injector Aidaptus, the first-ever single-use auto-injector for both 1mL and 2.25mL pre-filled syringes, along with the innovative springless safety syringe Unisafe and the newest lancets for blood sampling.

Since ramping up our sustainability initiative in 2014, we’ve made great strides, and today’s groundbreaking at the new Witney site is a perfect milestone in our ongoing journey,” said Jarl Severn, CEO at Owen Mumford. “We’re setting a high bar for how manufacturing can help lower environmental impacts. Investing in this facility is our commitment to everyone we work with, giving us the best foundation for product innovation while making sure we do it responsibly and ethically.”

Earlier this year, Owen Mumford earned B Corp certification after meeting strict criteria covering governance, community, workforce, environment, and customers.
