It all began more than 70 years ago, when our founders John Mumford and Ivan Owen met while completing their apprenticeships in Oxfordshire. United by a shared ambition to run their own business, they launched Owen Mumford in 1952, establishing a company guided from the outset by strong values that continue to shape how we think, work and innovate today.

One year after launching, John and Ivan began manufacturing the Oxford Inflating Bellows. When used in conjunction with a vaporiser, this provided a simple and transportable anaesthetic outfit that helped save countless lives. The pioneering spirit they brought to the enterprise didn’t stop there, but has been fundamental to the introduction of many more industry-defining medical devices.

Our future holds a focus on sustainability. The planet needs action and we have spent a lot of time looking closely at our processes and their impacts. We have committed to emission reduction goals with the Science Based Targets initiative, which will see us reach 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and become net zero by 2045.

Already a proud signatory to the UN Global Compact Sustainable Development Goals, we were among the first in our industry to earn B Corp certification. Looking ahead, our state-of-the-art production facility in Witney helps our ongoing development of innovative medical devices through sustainable design and manufacturing methods. The design of the building is certified to a high level of BREEAM certification, which recognises environmental, social and economic sustainability performance.

As part of our new product development process, we develop and acquire new technologies which enable us to create innovative product and design solutions. This process generates intellectual property, which is utilised throughout our product range.
