Delivering innovation in an accountable way
As a global business and significant local employer, we have responsibilities to our people and planet.
Every day we challenge ourselves to really live our mission as we carry out our work – to make a positive difference to our customers, our users, our associates and the environment. This is powered by a core pillar that is embedded at the heart of everything we do – sustainability. It influences our business strategy and defines our culture as we look towards the future.
Reflecting on this past year, one that has marked our 70th anniversary, we can trace the first development of our environmental credentials back to the 1990s. We have come a long way since then and it is particularly rewarding to see all our initiatives starting to make the positive difference that we work for, connecting sustainable behaviour with ethical and moral business outcomes.
Investing in the future
The site will set a benchmark for world-class design and development in medical devices, establishing a centre of excellence for automation and assembly to deliver a portfolio that drives innovation and growth for the long term.
It is crucial that construction causes minimal impact to the surrounding environment and eco-system, and so we are incredibly proud that the building is set to be included in the top 25 percent of buildings assessed through the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM).

Responsible Action Report 2024
Owen Mumford is one of the first medical device companies in the world to achieve B Corp certification and has set science-based targets to achieve net zero by 2045, as part of its long-established and continually evolving sustainability agenda. In this year’s report, we want to go through how the medical device industry can review and maybe rethink how its products are made, and how business is carried out.
We hope to inspire other companies in our sector to implement their own real action plan and work towards the goal of safe and sustainable future for everyone.

3 Good Health and well-being
In addition to our ongoing hybrid working policy allowing office-based associates to work from home up-to two days a week and choose working hours that suit their schedules, this year we launched a new policy allowing associates to accrue time off for working additional hours. This policy offers our team up to 12 additional days of holiday per year.
This year we welcomed regulatory auditors including RoSPA and SGS to review our health and safety and environmental processes. All evaluations resulted in zero critical observations, testament to our ongoing commitment to quality and efficiency across our operations.
5 Gender Equality
We have been monitoring and addressing disparities in pay between genders across all our sites. We are an equal opportunity employer that does not discriminate based on race, gender expression, sexuality, or religion.
As a family run company, we support all our associates as they build their own families through enhanced parental leave policies.

9 Industry Innovation and Infrastructure
Our UK logistics team operates a continuous improvement strategy to optimise efficiencies across the network. The introduction of a direct sea freight option for shipments sent from Malaysia to the US saves 1,067kg of CO2 per container and reduces the distance travelled by 3,169km.
12 Responsible consumption and production
The system will help the research and development team avoid guesswork and unintended consequences across all impact categories during design decisions, galvanising the approach to product development and playing a vital role in our scope 3 carbon emissions reduction roadmap.

13 Climate action
We will continue to monitor, evaluate, and improve our existing processes, suppliers, and technology to support this commitment and protect our future.
Our UK and German sites use 100 percent renewable sources for energy, and energy reduction initiatives have been rolled out and improved across all sites to reduce scope one and two emissions through adaptions like LED lighting and movement sensors. Electric car charging points are available across our German and UK sites, and the latter will have points expanded in 2023 to facilitate our growing EV usage.
