Owen Mumford has been leading the development of capillary blood sampling devices for use in point of care testing (POCT) and laboratory settings for over 35 years.

That’s why Owen Mumford has invested heavily to design drug delivery devices that are focused on improving patient comfort, ease of use and convenience. We pioneered the first re-useable auto-injector device and automatic insulin delivery pen and have continued to develop our device designs to empower patients and provide greater efficiency in drug delivery.

Our range of injection pens and needles are designed to support self-management and treatment programmes for a variety of conditions and therapy areas including diabetes and multiple sclerosis, and are used by world leading pharmaceutical companies in the delivery of pioneering drugs.

Owen Mumford injection products encourage a good injection technique and are ergonomically designed to be easy to use, even by young users and users with reduced dexterity.

Autoject^®2
Automated injection devices that give greater control to patients. Autoject^® 2 is an automated injection device for the delivery of parenteral syringe-based drugs.
Convenient and easy to use it is also an effective device for patients who have difficulty injecting manually with a syringe, who are worried about needles or have reduced dexterity. At the touch of a button, Autoject^®2 administers an injection treatment without the user having to see the needle. It has a one-handed operation, which makes it easy to use on a wider range of injection sites and features a protective cap and locking mechanism to prevent accidental activation.

Owen Mumford does not support or endorse the off-label use of Autoject 2 for epinephrine injections.

The insulin delivery pen that simplifies injections.

Autopen^®
is a reusable insulin cartridge delivery pen designed to ease the delivery of insulin injections for patients, care givers and healthcare providers. It features a unique side firing mechanism that delivers a pre-defined insulin dosage with minimal force, making it easy to use and effective for younger patients or users with reduced dexterity.

Unifine^® Pentips^®
pen needles provide patients with a more comfortable injection experience, encouraging adherence to injection regimens. Compatible with all major brands of injection pen, Unifine^® Pentips^® have triple sharpened, ultra thin gauge needles combined with anti-coring technology and high quality silicon, which results in a pen needle with one of the lowest penetration forces.

The first all-in-one pen needle and remover for easier needle change.

Unifine^® Pentips^® Plus is a premium quality pen needle with a built-in remover designed to improve patient adherence and encourage good injection routine during self-injection. The preferred and most accurate routine when using injection pens is the immediate removal of the pen needle after injection and replacement with a new needle just prior to injection 1,2. The unique design of Unifine^® Pentips^® Plus gives patients an empty chamber in which to dispose of a used pen needle immediately after use.

Owen Mumford has been at the forefront of medical device innovation for over 60 years, creating solutions that improve the delivery of healthcare and home health treatments for people around the world. Our experience in medical devices began in the 1950s when our founders Ivan Owen and John Mumford established the company. Today, we have direct sales offices and a network of distribution partners serving customers in over 60 countries, and employ over 700 people across the Americas, Europe and Asia.

A history of growth and innovation spanning six decades

2010's
Owen Mumford further expands both its R&D capabilities and manufacturing resources, reaffirming the company’s commitment to design and innovation. This includes the introduction of state-of-the-art 3D printing technologies, recruitment of a human factors specialist, new edge to edge clean room facilities and the use of environmental building solutions.

Product innovations include new auto-injector devices, such as Extavipro^®30G and Anapen2^® and Unifine^® Pentips^® Plus, the first pen needle device with a built-in needle remover, which incorporate advanced ergonomic design and user features developed together with patients and healthcare professionals. Owen Mumford also expands its range of specialist products for men and women’s health and launches the world’s first insulin injector pen for veterinary use.

2000's
Innovation firsts include the launch of Autolet^® Impression, a lancing device that uses Owen Mumford’s patented Comfort Zone Technology, based on the pain masking mechanism of Gate Theory of Pain, to make capillary blood testing more comfortable, and the Simpleject^® auto-injector system. The single use safety lancet range, Unistik^® 3, goes into production to meet international demand.

1990's
OEM contracts with world leading pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies are obtained for insulin pens, auto injectors and lancing devices. New product innovations include the Autopen^®, the Unistik^® range of single use safety lancets and Neuropen^® for neuropathy screening.

1980's
The success of Owen Mumford’s Autolet^® leads to international demand for lancing devices for capillary blood testing. By 1987, Owen Mumford expands its innovations in diabetes care with the addition of Unilet^®: a new lancet range, the launch of the Autoinjector™: the first plastic re-usable auto-injector device and the Accupen^®: the first automatic insulin delivery pen. These device transformed drug administration for patients, incorporating trigger spring technology, enhancing ease of use and increasing patient adherence.

1970's
In 1977, Owen Mumford develops a device to help people with diabetes take capillary blood samples. In March 1978, the Autolet^®, the world’s first automatic lancing device is launched and becomes a major improvement in blood glucose monitoring worldwide. This marks the beginning of Owen Mumford’s important relationship with devices in the treatment of diabetes.

1960's
The company continues to manufacture anesthesia equipment while progressing into injection moulding for a wide variety of products.

1950's
Owen Mumford’s first product is an improved version of the Macintosh Laryngoscope, closely followed by the Oxford Inflating Bellows, Radcliffe Humidifier and accessories for these products.

The manufacture of aluminium moulds for the local plastic injection moulding industry becomes part of Owen Mumford’s engineering activities.

World-class research and engineering design

We have invested in creating one of the largest research and design team focused on generating a wide IP portfolio encompassing autoinjectors, injection pens and devices, needles and capillary blood sampling solutions.
Our human factors engineering and usability engineering expertise ensures that products are designed with patients and healthcare professionals in mind, to make it as easy as possible for the end-user to adhere to a treatment regime.
With extensive experience in mechanical and industrial design we ensure devices are designed and manufactured to the highest specifications and have full IP protection.
