Owen Mumford presents Independent Futures with Innovation Award

On Friday, 27th March, the 2015 West Oxfordshire Business Awards (WOBA) Finals took place at the luxury Heythrop Park Resort in Enstone, Oxfordshire. Owen Mumford has sponsored the Innovation Award since the WOBAs began in 2011, with Andy Vardé, Director of Research and Development playing an important role as a judge on the panel as well as presenting the Award at the Finals.

The Owen Mumford Innovation Award recognises successfully applied innovations, from new products and services to a culture of improvement and celebrates ideas that have created value, whether to the organisation or to society as a whole. This year, the shortlist for the Innovation Award included:

Independent Futures – an organisation, which provides high quality supported independent living, advice and support

Sonnox Ltd – a designer of award-winning, audio processing plug-ins for professional audio engineers

Ue Coffee Roasters – the UK’s first and only coffee roasting company using artisan wood powered roasters to produce premium coffee

Andy Vardé said: ‘Choosing a winner from these three finalists was very difficult because each demonstrated a commitment to innovation and a genuine passion for what they do. More importantly, they had taken their ideas and made them into something of real value. But after much consideration, it was unanimously agreed that Independent Futures was a worthy winner. They not only had a great idea to improve the lives of people with support needs but they had also gone ahead and acted on it by opening their first shared house with four housemates at the same or lower cost than the current provision. Innovation’s true value is about making an idea happen to bring about real change and this is exactly what Independent Futures has succeeded in doing. We would like to congratulate them once again on winning the Innovation Award and wish them well with their future success.’
