Helping Chipping Norton School maintain a cutting edge
June 10, 2015 |
As a leading Oxfordshire-based business, Owen Mumford is proud of its commitment to support educational projects at local schools. The latest initiative is with Chipping Norton School’s Design & Technology department where the company has sponsored a new laser cutter machine.
Laser cutting machines have become important to schools’ design and technology departments, helping students achieve better results in their design projects and examinations. As the name implies, the machines provide a precise way of cutting materials, such as cardboard, acrylic, wood, leather, MDF and fabrics among others.
On 9th June, a team from Owen Mumford headed up by Modestino Graziano, Group Operations Director, joined staff, parents and students at a special event held in the Design & Technology department to see the new laser cutter in action. Joseph Jaffé, an A Level student in his final year at the school also attended. Joseph won the 2014 Owen Mumford University Engineering Scholarship (starting autumn 2015), which provides both financial support and work experience placements whilst studying.
Modestino Graziano said, “As a successful Oxfordshire business, we are delighted to support young people’s education at schools in the towns where we are based and our strong relationship with the Chipping Norton School is one of which we are very proud. Sponsoring the new laser cutter is an exciting way that we can support and encourage technology in education and we know that such hi-tech equipment is an important learning resource for staff and students alike.”
