Owen Mumford recognised for innovation at Thames Valley Business Magazine Awards 2006 for its advanced lancing device.
The advanced home-use lancing device, Autolet Impression,
manufactured at Owen Mumford’s facility in Chipping Norton and
designed at the companies head office in Woodstock, reached the
final of the Innovation category at the coveted Thames Valley
Business Magazine Awards 2006, held at Wentworth Golf Club, and
attended by chief guest George Osborne - Shadow Chancellor of
the Exchequer.
Autolet Impression’s innovative features, which impressed judges,
are designed to greatly increase comfort and control for people
with diabetes. Innovative features include the patented comfort
zone feature, a series of 8 raised dots that mask the sensation of
pain and also a force adjustment feature that allows the user to
change the force of lancet penetration to suit different skin
thickness.
The lancing device is used by people with diabetes who need to
obtain a small blood sample to use with a blood glucose monitoring
meter. The lancet is inserted into the device and the device is
then used to prick the side of a finger, with the resulting drop of
blood used on a testing strip with a meter to read the blood
glucose level automatically.
The results from a recent survey of users of Autolet Impression
found that 79% found the device very comfortable or comfortable.
When asked to compare Autolet Impression with their previous finger
pricker, 57% of respondents stated that Autolet Impression was much
better.
Over 20 companies entered the Innovation category, with Owen
Mumford awarded 2nd place by the sponsors of the innovation award –
Slough Trading Estate. The winner of the Innovation Award was
Re-New Surface Systems (Slough) that claims to be saving the
construction industry, retailers and cruise ship owners thousands
of pounds with its technology that removes all types of glass
surface damage, including scratches, graffiti, corrosion,
pollution, weld and grinder splatter.
