Owen Mumford Ltd receives Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in TWO categories

Owen Mumford Ltd is a double winner of the prestigious Queen’s Awards 2008 for International Trade and Innovation.

The Queen’s Award for International Trade recognises Owen Mumford’s outstanding International Trade record, which in the last six years has seen the company’s export earnings increase by a staggering 156%.   In fact, Owen Mumford exports over 80% of its total production.

The Queen’s Award for Innovation is specifically for Owen Mumford’s safety lancet Unistik ® 3, the only single use capillary blood sampling device in the world with Comfort Zone Technology® making blood sampling for patients virtually pain-free.  This new disposable device incorporates unique technology making it almost painless for patients when used. 

International Trade Award
This is the second time, Owen Mumford has been bestowed a Queen’s Award having previously received the Award for Export Achievement in 1999.  Since then, the company has developed its export trade with overseas sales organisations in the USA, France and Germany and a wide geographical network of distributors.  Owen Mumford exports to the Americas, Europe, Middle East, South East Asia, Australia and South Africa and more recently has successfully extended its business into Eastern Europe, India and China.

Innovation Award
Kevin King, Product Manager for Unistik® 3 said:

“Although people with diabetes are encouraged to take regular blood samples, they are often reluctant to do so because some devices are painful to use – especially for young children.  Unistik® 3 makes the process simple, hygienic and most importantly, virtually pain-free which was our overriding objective in designing it.   Since Unistik® 3 was introduced in 2006, we have seen a huge increase in demand and feel confident it will encourage patient compliance in monitoring blood sugar levels.”
